Dubai Press Club to host UAE-Bahrain Media Forum on 20 October

Dubai Press Club (DPC), in collaboration with the Bahrain Journalists Association, announced that it will organise the UAE-Bahrain Media Forum on 20 October to discuss the impact of recent global developments, including the COVID-19 pandemic, on the media sector.

The one-day Forum, to be held virtually, will feature the participation of His Excellency Ali bin Mohammed Al Rumaihi, Bahrain’s Minister of Information Affairs; Her Excellency Mona Al Marri, President of DPC and Director General of the Government of Dubai Media Office (GDMO); Issa Al Shaiji, President of the Bahrain Journalists Association; and Maitha Buhumaid, Director of DPC. Key media personalities, heads of UAE media institutions, prominent writers, thinkers, intellectuals and academics from across the region will also attend the virtual event.

The UAE-Bahrain Media Forum provides a platform for dialogue on the current state of Arab media and the shifts that are set to shape the future of the industry. The Forum will also discuss the role of social media influencers in developing impactful content and sharing inspirational stories from the region.

HE Mona Al Marri, Director General of the GDMO, welcomed the participation of Bahrain’s Minister of Information Affairs HE Ali bin Mohammed Al Rumaihi, who will deliver the keynote address at the first media forum to be organised jointly by the UAE and Bahrain.

“We are delighted to have Bahrain’s Minister of Information Affairs join us as a main speaker at the Forum. Participants at the event will have a chance to listen to his insights drawn from his rich experience and vision. The UAE-Bahrain Media Forum is being hosted at a time of great disruption in the industry caused by the pandemic, which has led many news media outlets to rethink their business models,” Al Marri said.

Her Excellency added that the Forum will provide an exceptional opportunity to identify ways in which the media can come together to tackle key challenges facing the industry and further enhance the region’s content landscape.

Maitha Buhumaid, Director of DPC, said: “Dubai Press Club is pleased to welcome the participants of the first UAE-Bahrain Media Forum. At DPC, we strongly believe in the media’s role as a key partner in the nation’s development. The Forum’s sessions will shed light on the importance of transitioning to a digital environment in order to overcome the challenges many media are facing today.”

The Forum will address key issues including the future of media amid the global pandemic; the crisis of trust in the media among Arab youth; and the role of social media influencers in sharing content that creates a positive impact, among other topics.

The UAE-Bahrain Media Forum will be broadcast on DPC’s official social media accounts.
