UAE Media delegation visits Cairo for meetings with Arab League and leading media organisations
A UAE media delegation has embarked on visit to Cairo, Egypt to hold a series of meetings with officials of the Arab League, National Media Authority and the Egyptian Journalists Syndicate. The visit, taking place from 13-17 September, also features meetings with chief editors of local newspapers and prominent media figures.
Organised by the Dubai Press Club (DPC), the visit is the first engagement held by an Emirati media delegation since Dubai was named the Capital of Arab Media for 2020 by the Arab Information Ministers Council in July.
Her Excellency Mona Ghanem Al Marri, President of Dubai Press Club, said that the visit reflects the strong ties DPC enjoys with media organisations across the region, and its steadfast commitment to supporting the development of the media sector locally and regionally. DPC constantly seeks to foster the development of Arab media and support it in finding solutions to the challenges it faces through initiatives like Arab Media Forum and Arab Journalism Award. DPC is proud of the contributions these events have made to promoting dialogue and raising standards of excellence in the regional media industry, she said.
“The Arab world is currently going through a critical juncture in its history. It is vital that Arab media organisations collaborate with each other so that we can together raise our capabilities to keep pace with the global changes impacting Arab society. These issues will be a key focus of the Emirati media delegation’s discussions with prominent Egyptian media figures. The visit to Cairo forms part of a year-long series of engagements and events organised to mark Dubai’s selection as the ‘Capital of Arab Media for 2020’. We aim to make a positive impact on the Arab world’s media sector and hope to forge strong relations with Egypt’s media community,” Al Marri said.
The Emirati media delegation includes HE Dherar Belhoul Al Falasi, Director General of Watani Al Emarat Foundation; Ahmed Al Hammadi, CEO of the Press Sector at Dubai Media Incorporated; Maitha Buhumaid, Director of DPC; Dr. Hessa Lootah, and a number of chief editors of UAE newspapers including Mona Bu Samra, the editor-in-chief of Al Bayan; Sami Al Riyami, Editor-in-Chief of Emarat Al Youm; Khadija Al Marzouqi, Editor-in-Chief of Dubai Post; Raed Al Barqawi, Executive Editor-in-Chief of Al Khaleej; and Sarah Al Jarman, General Manager Dubai TV & Dubai One TV.
Last July, during its 50th Ordinary Session, the Arab Information Ministers Council selected Dubai as the 2020 'Capital of Arab Media'. The Council's decision recognises the UAE’s role in supporting Arab and international media and as well as Dubai's prominent stature in the region’s media landscape.
